Privasec Red’s Hacking Challenge

The Privasec team are proud to be one of the sponsors for Australia’s biggest software security conference: OWASP AppSec Day 2019. The conference talks focus on techniques to build and deploy secure web and mobile applications and DevSecOps practices for fast agile software delivery environments.

AppSecDay also marks the beginning of our Privasec Red Hacking Challenge which will consist of four weekly challenges where we’ll give away 80 one month subscriptions to the Hack The Box penetration testing platform. Make sure you follow Privasec Red on Twitter and look out for the Privasec Red Hacking Challenge’s clues at the conference for your chance to grab a free Hack the Box subscription in the week one challenge.

The prize giveaways are subject to the following terms and conditions:

Round 1:

  • Locate the PrivasecRed hacker at AppSecDay on the 1/11/2019 and tell them you want to “Hack The Box with PrivasecRed”.
  • Follow their instructions as to how to claim your subscription.
  • 20 Hack The Box subscriptions will be up for grabs. First in, first served

Round 2:

  • Follow PrivasecRed on Twitter: https://twitter.com/privasecred.
  • Send us a tweet at @PrivasecRed telling us what it is that you love about Information Security, Cybersecurity, or Ethical Hacking. It can include things like what excites you, motivates you, or concerns you? What’s your “why” for being involved in the industry?
  • Round 2 is open to anyone currently undertaking study at a university, college, or other educational institution including certificate courses.
  • You must be able to prove your enrolment either by providing us with your student email address for prize delivery, or an alternate method if enrolled in a certificate course (contact us via DM on @PrivasecRed for details).
  • Your area of study can be outside of the cybersecurity or information security arena, we welcome diversity!
  • We’ll assess the responses and choose the best at the end of the round (closing date is 13/11/2019).
  • Winners will be notified via DM on Twitter.
  • 20 Hack The Box Subscriptions will be up for grabs.

Round 3:

  • Follow PrivasecRed on Twitter: https://twitter.com/privasecred.
  • Round 3 is open to anyone who can crack our basic encryption challenge.
  • Find the encrypted string on our Twitter feed, crack it, and send the decrypted string to us via DM on our Twitter account: www.twitter.com/PrivasecRed.
  • Anyone openly tweeting the decrypted string will be disqualified, and a new encrypted string will be released. So please keep it fun and challenging for everyone by not posting spoilers.
  • 20 Hack The Box subscriptions will be up for grabs. The first 20 people to decrypt the string and message us with it win.

Round 4:

  • Round 4 is open to anyone who can capture the flag.

  • Unzip the file, grab the flag from the text file, and send it to us via DM on our Twitter account: www.twitter.com/PrivasecRed
  • Anyone openly tweeting the flag will be disqualified, and a new flag will be released. So please keep it fun and challenging for everyone by not posting spoilers.
  • 20 Hack The Box subscriptions will be up for grabs. The first 20 people to send us the flag win.
  • The promoter is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.
  • Winners need to complete the challenges as set by the promoter for each round. Where not based on a first completed, first won basis, winners will be selected based on the quality of their challenge submissions by the promoter.
  • The prizes are as follows:
    • PrivasecRed have 80 Hack The Box VIP one month free subscriptions to give away during the course of the competition.
    • The prize is as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability.
  • The winner will be notified by email or DM on Twitter within 28 days of the closing date. If the winner cannot be contacted or do not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
  • The promoter will notify the winner when and where the prize can be collected/is delivered.
  • The promoter’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by NSW law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of NSW.
